North American Access Alliance (NACAA)

The North American Coastal Access Alliance (NACAA) serves as the parent organization and backbone support system for the formation and sustainability of regional, community-based surf clubs.

NACAA provides the structure, standards, and shared resources that allow local surf clubs to form, operate safely, and grow without each community having to build everything from scratch. NACAA acts as the enabling organization, while regional surf clubs remain locally led, place-based, and responsive to their own communities.

The North American Coastal Access Alliance is a registered 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to expanding equitable access to the ocean through community-based surf, coastal education, and youth development programs. As a non-profit, we rely on public support to continue our work.

About Us

Providing organizational infrastructure

NACAA offers nonprofit governance, fiscal oversight, insurance coverage, and compliance support. This allows local surf clubs to focus on youth, families, and programming rather than administrative burden.

Establishing safety, curriculum, and coaching standards

NACAA develops shared safety protocols, coach training requirements, and progressive skill frameworks that ensure consistency and quality across all regional clubs. This includes ocean safety standards, supervision ratios, and age-appropriate skill progression.

Supplying program models and curriculum

Regional clubs are supported with adaptable program templates, lesson sequencing, and educational content that integrates surf skills, ocean safety, marine science, and environmental stewardship. Clubs can tailor these materials to local conditions while maintaining a common educational foundation.

Reducing barriers through shared resources

NACAA helps coordinate access to equipment, grants, in-kind donations, and fundraising strategies. By pooling purchasing power and partnerships, NACAA lowers costs and expands access for local programs.

Supporting local leadership and volunteer development

NACAA trains and mentors local organizers, coaches, and volunteers, helping communities build strong leadership teams. This includes guidance on volunteer recruitment, certification pathways, and program management.

Ensuring equity and access

As a parent organization, NACAA prioritizes removing financial, cultural, and geographic barriers to ocean access. Regional clubs operate under this shared mission, offering low- or no-cost participation and welcoming families who may not otherwise have access to surf or coastal education.

Connecting clubs into a broader network

NACAA links regional surf clubs into a learning network where best practices, lessons learned, and community partnerships can be shared. This creates resilience, continuity, and long-term sustainability across regions.
